Since it is finally that time of year I'd thought I'd make a list of date ideas to do in the summer time. The weather is nice, the sun is shining, romance is blossoming, skin gets darker, hair gets lighter, nights are longer and all you want to do is lay on the beach and get that summer glow going. Now let's say you're dating someone, in a committed relationship or just going on the first date, these are great options for any type of relationship or potential relationship!
1. Bowling: Now I know what you're thinking, "Bowling? Ew, I haven't done that since I was a kid! Those shoes? Ugh NO WAY!" But it's a great way to get to know someone and have fun and there's not a ton of pressure to just sit and talk and tell someone your life story on the first date. If you're in a relationship then it's a great way to show off your competitive side and rub it in your partner's face when you beat them. ;)
2. Go-Kart Racing: This one is defs one of my favorite date ideas or even just a fun idea to do with friends in general. It's a great way to prove to the boys that, yes I can drive, a go-kart that is. You'll want to find a place that has a pretty decent sized track, which I'm sure there would be some in your area if you research it well enough. If you can I suggest bringing your own helmet cause the helmets there are kinda gross....eekk. You usually get to do a few laps and you're not just racing your significant other or your friends but multiple different people. It's super fun when you lap someone and start drifting around corners, but I'd leave that to the experts. ;)
3. Drive-in Movie: This one is a given to do in the summer time. Perfect weather to watch a movie outside. If your beau has a truck then guuurrllll are you in for a treat. Just slyly suggest to put a mattress, blankets and pillows in the back and voila, you have you're own comfy movie viewing area. Grab some snacks like popcorn, licorice and some pop and you'll have a great night guaranteed!
4. Theme/ Amusement Park: Now I don't know if everywhere has one of these but in Vancouver we have Playland which is a pretty awesome place to even just go with your friends. There's different rides and attractions to see and do. I like the Swings and Crazy Beach Party, and if you want something a little more romantic then obviously the Ferris Wheel is where it's at, and if you get to catch the sunset on the top of one then its the perfect date picture. Obviously one thing you HAVE to do when you're at an Amusement Park is play some of the games, yeah they're rigged to get money but if you or your partner is talented then you can get a nice souvenir stuffy!
5.Bike Ride: Vancouver has tons of places to bike ride. The Sea Wall is one of the most popular places to bike ride or even rollerblade. There's a few different places where you can even rent bikes and take them for an hour or even the day and just explore Vancouver. I'm sure every major city has something along those lines, or if you own your own bike then you could even just bring that. Just toss it in the truck bed and you're good to go, find a nice dyke or place to ride and you're golden!
6. Aquarium/ Zoo: This one is a toss up for me because I like seeing the animals and learning about them, but I'm not so thrilled on seeing them in captivity. I'd prefer to see them in their natural habit, but some of the animals that the Greater Vancouver Zoo and the Vancouver Aquarium are rescues from mothers that abandoned their young or were killed and injured animals that can't be returned to the wild because it's too dangerous for them. But this is a nice date to go on regardless of how you feel about the animals and you can even get some food there and some souvenirs!
7. Fireworks shows: Whether it be for The Celebration of Lights, Canada Day or the 4th of July, this is a great option for a date. There's nothing more romantic than sitting under the stars with your significant other, huddled under a blanket watching the fireworks display with a cold one of course!
8. BBQ: Now this one would be a fun sorta group date idea. Get a few friends, some drinks and some good snacks and your set to have a great time with great people. As it gets later in the evening start a fire and get out the marshmallows and make some s'mores! Or if you're not feeling the group setting grab your significant other and just have a small fire with the two of you!
9. Outdoor Concert/ Festival: Whether it's a new band or a band you've wanted to see for a long time an outdoor concert in the summer is just a great idea to cross off your bucketlist. In Vancouver we have a few outdoor concerts/ festivals all over the North shore and surrounding areas. They range from jazz to folk depending on which one you go to. So grab your partner and head out there and hit up an outdoor concert!
10. Hiking: If you don't mind getting down and dirty or at least a little bit sweaty then heading on a hike with your significant other is a must in the summer time. Why not take advantage of the nice weather and get in a workout at the same time? Don't forget to pack some snacks/ lunch and have a little picnic when you reach the top! Also bring a camera because you can't miss taking a picture of the view you'll have!
11. Golfing: Grab your beau, those 9 irons, and hit the green at your local driving range. If you're like me and have no idea how to golf unless it's mini golf, then your partner can give you a hand with your follow through and give you some pointers. Great way to get super close to each other and make them feel like a pro. ;)
12. Botanical Gardens: Stop and smell the roses. Literally! Hit up a Botanical Garden and check out the beautiful designs and set ups of the gardens. Smell all the flowers, hold hands and take pictures. Take advantage of being in the beautiful setting and make it as romantic as possible!
13. Road trip: This one speaks for itself. It's summer which means you gotta take advantage of the gorgeous warm weather and take some time off. Grab your beau, some sleeping bags, a tent, snacks, some drinks, fill up the car and take off! If you can only get a day off then take a day trip somewhere and enjoy the sights and scenery!
14. Water Balloon Fight: Take advantage of those hot summer days and grab some friends and hit up the dollar store to grab some water balloons. Fill those bad boys up and head out to a field/ park and get to throwing. If you want to make it a bit more interesting make teams. You could also fill them up with paint and have a paint fight! Just make sure you get biodegradable balloons and safe paint where it won't damage grass or harm animals if they ingest it. Or pick up the torn pieces of the balloons afterwards. Gotta think about our furry friends!
15. Sunset/ Sunrise: With the joys of summer come longer days. So grab a blanket, some snacks, a camera and your partner and head up to a beach to watch the sunset/ sunrise. I have to say living in Vancouver we have some beautiful sunrises and sunsets. And when your downtown at one of the many beaches when you see that sun set and the light reflects off the water it's absolutely breathtaking. I will never grow tired of it. If you want to catch the sunrise head out just before dawn and make camp on the beach and wait for the sun to come up. It's seriously so beautiful and romantic!
Well there you have it! My top 15 Summer Date Ideas! Now obviously there's TONS more stuff to do come summer but these are some of my favs. Now get there and try some of these, and remember you don't ALWAYS need to just have your significant other with you, grab some friends and hit some of these places too! And don't forget to grab some ice cream to enjoy during them either! Bubble gum and cotton candy are my favs, and obvs anything chocolate or with alcohol! Haha
Take care loves!
